Director of Queen of the Damned:
"There was two factors for casting Aaliyah. I was very keen that Akasha an Egyptian queen, not look like Elizabeth Taylor. And not only did [Aaliyah] do a good job in Romeo Must Die, but people want to see her. This is a really difficult role, and she took on a huge challenge. She worked her ass off for this film."

In 2001:
"I've always been myseterious. There are times when I don't understand myself...I think I'm a bit of a vampire in real life, and there are times when I just want to be myself."

On her career:
"I think it's important to take a break, you know, from the public eye for a while, and give people a chance to miss you. I want longevity. I don't want to get out there and run myself ragged and spread myself thin."

On Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails):
"Well, we met for the first time at the MTV Video [Music] Awards and we talked for a while and we've talked on the phone a few times. He's a really nice person and extremely talented, so maybe we'll be able to collaborate. I think our sounds would really mesh well, so I'll bring a little something to the table, he'll bring something, and we'll see how it works."

On Trish O'Day (her character from Romeo Must Die):
What I like about Trish is that she's tough. She's independent. She doesn't take anything off anybody. But at the same time, she loves her family. She's got a sweet side. So I felt I could play her, and people could get into her. It would be realistic to people, being that people know me as Aaliyah, the artist -- there is this image that I have. I wanted to make the right transition and have people understand where I was going, and I felt Trish embodied all of that.

On 'One In a Million':
"I was very involved. When I got with the producers, I told them I wanted an album with different moods, different flavors. I wanted to talk about relationships and have party songs."

On Her Commercial (for 'One In a Million'):
"Vincent (Herbert) gave us the idea of coming up like out of an elevator, out of the ground. Then Blackground said, 'Why don't you just come out of the ground like an earthquake?' It took all day to do that commercial and it's hilarious because every time I watch it I say, 'We were out there for eight hours for a 30 second commercial.' "

Advice for aspiring artists:
"Keep working hard and you can get anything that you want. If God gave you the talent, you should go for it. But don't think it's going to be easy. It's hard!"

On her image:
"Well, I think that the image is a part of me. I wear the baggy pants , the hats, the whole nine. And you know, I may add a little for the excitement and the intrigue in the videos, but my family has told me that little air of mystery that surrounds me is for real."
